Why are we always confronted with hardships? Is it because we cannot face our deepest desires? Or rather because we run away from them? Are we caged by society, our relationships, or by ourselves?
“Birdy” expresses our deepest desire of searching for a place from which to soar.
The long pheasant feathers fixed atop the dancers’ head are like an extension of their spines, reflecting waves of anxiety and hope through their kinetic energy and amplitude.
In traditional Chinese opera, these feathers are the symbol of a warrior’s might. Here they operate as a symbol of our power, our ability to reshape history and consciousness.

Hung Dance is a Taiwanese contemporary dance company founded in 2017 by artistic director and choreographer Lai Hung-chung. The company's name, inspired by the word "hung (翃)," reflects their aspiration to soar. Lai Hung-Chung has crafted a unique dance technique that combines contemporary dance, Tai-chi and traditional Chinese opera; which is found in all of the company's annual creations, that have earned the company international recognition. 

Lai Hung-Chung can also offer a 2 hour workshop on his unique technique.
